Lose Weight Fast

Most of us relieve that self indulging with food has little to no consequence...Until we see ourselves in a bathing suit. It's at this time when we would like a magic wand and wish away all the "extra" self we see reflecting in the mirror.

Sadly, there are no magic wands, no zipper included in our skin and no quick fix to days, months or even years of self indulging, weight loosing takes time and effort; all products that offer such a result, lie.

One of the ways, of course, is to stop.

But sometimes, "just stopping" does not quite cut it. We need more. Our self indulgent behavior has caused more than a few pounds and we often would like to believe that each one is unique and can be easily wiped off with a week or two of caring. This is not always the case and we need to do more. A person who needs to lose weight fast can resort to several things:

Surgery is the most dramatic choice but is often sought by people who have tried almost everything and could not cut it; most of the times, exercise is something that is tried once or twice, but with morbidly obese people this takes a lot longer or they need to lose weight BEFORE they can actually start working out. This is a very costly and risky -as with any other surgery- procedure and definitely should not be considered until exhausting all other options.

Diets are the first choice for people who want to loose weight fast. Some diets promise wonders and near-to-miraculous results such as with the Lunar or Moon diet, the Rice Water Diet, the Garlic Diet (this one I've seen that the only thing lost are friends) and many others. Diets should be handled, scheduled and designed by a joint team consisting of a physician, a nutritionist, the interested person if they are only seeking to change dietary habits. But if the diet is part of an overall weight loss program, then a personal trainer needs to be included.

Dietary supplements are also an important part of this paraphernalia and also offer amazing-and-miraculous solutions to losing weight fast. Some of them even go to the length and offer loosing sizes while you bathe! Naturally, this is close to impossible but this does not stops them, since it is quite a business considering just one buy per customer, they have a secure market of millions. Dietary "magic" supplements, of course, do not work; the ones that do work are often prescribed by certified physicians and nutritionists that are up-to-date with the latest developments in this health area. If you are looking to dieting and would like a dietary supplement like vitamins, then even with something that "innocuous" you need to consult a physician first.

Exercise is not a magical wand either. It requires physician supervision and the joint team work. Diets and dietary supplements also form part of the team work exercise will lead in losing weight fast.

How To Lose 100 Pounds - In The Quickest, But Healthiest Way!

If youve ever wanted to know how to lose 100 pounds, you probably came across many different types of diets.

Its true, there are tons of ways to lose weight. You could take diet pills, go on medicine, eat low calorie, low carb, starve yourself, go on a liquid fast the options are endless. Most of them work, too.

The problem is, its very hard to stay on those types of diets. Not only are they physically hard (you often go hungry), but psychologically, theyre not good for you either. If you gain weight for one day, then you feel as if youve messed up, and theres no point in staying on the diet. Also, these diets are short term things people have no desire to stay on them for the rest of their lives, so once they lose the weight, they revert back to their old eating habits and gain the weight again.

If you want to know how to lose 100 pounds the good news is that its not as hard as everybody makes it out to be. You dont have to go hungry, and in fact, that actually hinders your weight loss efforts. Low calorie, low carbohydrate, and starvation diets actually DONT work (well).

When researching how to lose weight, I researched a lot about bodybuilders and people with anorexia. I wanted to know how to lose 100 pounds, and figured that since those types of people are obsessed with their bodies, they would know the best methods available. What shocked me is that the hardcore anorexics actually dont starve themselves they know it doesnt work that well long term but they follow a specific eating plan.

Of course, the plan that I suggest and use frequently isnt as strict as the one that anorexic people use, but the point is that it works, and it works well.

The great thing is, this plan is completely healthy, and it was actually based on the way that our ancestors ate.

In this way of eating, people vary their calories. They still get to eat normal portions, and they can eat what they want but the magic is when they trick their body and vary what they eat per day. The body never gets used to what its being fed, so it cant plateau.

Actually, youre shocking your body, and doing the opposite of what it expects you to do. This is why the effects are so powerful! You're going to NOT continue eating the same types of calories and meals for more than a couple days at a time, and you're going to lose a lot of weight by doing this.

Because of this, people keep losing weight, over and over and over. People actually lose up to 13 pounds every 11 days with this method, and it never expires.

Rachel Jenkins has lost 100 pounds herself, and is passionate about helping other people do it too. You can check her website out at http://www.yayFOOD.com

Using Calories For Weight Loss

Ever wondered what a calorie is? The definition of a calorie is "the amount of energy, or heat it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water to1 degree Celsius."

A calorie is a unit of energy that is associated with food and drink and is a measure of the energy, or heat, that food produces as your body uses it as fuel.

The first step in counting calories for your personal weight loss is to calculate how many calories you burn in a day (your total daily energy expenditure), this is the total number of calories that your body expends in 24 hours, including all activities.

This is known as your maintenance level and will be the reference point (number of calories) from which to start your dieting.

The average calorie maintenance level for women in the United States is approx 2000 per day and the average for men is approx 2500 per day. These are only basic averages and are usually much higher for athletes or active individuals.

A quick and easy method to find out how many calories you require per day for weight loss and maintenance is to calculate a calorie value with a multiplier as set out below.

Fat loss = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 12 calories (12 x lb).

Maintenance = multiply your bodyweight in pounds with 15 calories (15 x lb).

This is a very easy method to estimate your daily caloric requirements, but it has its drawbacks as it doesn't take into account your particular activity levels or body fat levels. Despite this it will give you a good estimated figure that you can work with.

The maintenance figure that you get is the amount of calories that you need to consume to stay at your current weight. To lose weight your calorie intake must be lower than the calories you burn.

In order to lose one pound of fat per week, you must reduce your weekly calorie intake by 3,500 calories, which works out at five hundred calories per day. This can be done by reducing your calories by 500 or combining a diet with physical activity.

The bottom line is to balance your caloric intake with the amount of calories that you are burning, that's the secret to successful dieting and weight maintenance.

Becoming more conscious of counting calories in your everyday eating regime is imperative if you are trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that men and women "underestimate" their daily calorie consumption by 500 to almost 1000 calories.

You can get a truer picture by keeping a seven-day eating plan of what you typically eat and drink during the day.

At the end of each days eating, add up the total amount of calories consumed and write them down on to the eating plan. At the end of the seven days, add the total calories for the whole week and then divide by seven, you now have your daily calorie intake.

Using a calorie calculator can make counting calories easier - you can total how many calories you will need for your daily activities to give you more control over how many calories you should include in your daily diet.

Another technique for low calorie eating is to watch your fat intake as this has the most calories.

Moderation is always important when you are counting calories, severely restricting calories, causes the body to lower its metabolic rate, which reduces its ability to burn fat.

At the same time, hunger signals increase and you quickly start to crave high-energy foods loaded with fats and sugar, the same foods you are trying to do without.

This is because when you return to normal eating habits, the drop in metabolic rate caused by the restriction in calories means that your old eating habits actually represent excess in calories.

Not only do you regain the fat stores just lost, but also you may even gain a bit extra.

"Dieting by counting calories means that all foods are allowed, nothing is forbidden as long as the calories consumed don't go over your daily calorie allowance"

Counting calories can also be flexible enough to accommodate most busy lifestyles.

Some food for thought isn't it; health professionals agree that healthy eating which includes counting calories and a low fat diet are essential for long-term healthy weight loss.

The way to lose body fat and maintain muscle is to have a food program for life. Quality food and more energy output are the basics you'll need to go for.

Turbulence Training - Fat Burning Exercise Review

Turbulence training was devised by world renowned Certified Strength And Condition Specialist (CCSS) Craig Ballantyne. Essentially he claims this system will allow anyone to achieve significant fat loss and muscle gain from 3 short intense sessions per week. This seemed a little too good to be true, so we thought we would give turbulence training a go.

Firstly turbulence training is doctor approved, and a great deal of emphasis is initially placed on ensuring the user is in a fit state to be undertaking such an exercise plan. IT is advisable to get a medical before undertaking an intense fat burning exercise routine.

Secondly there is great detail on the ideal food groups, and suggested diet you should use while undertaking turbulence training. No great secrets here- its has all been written before.

When you finally get to the exercises, you can see the hard work which Craig has poured into this system. Precise detail is given for exact amount of exercises, sets and repetitions, and most importantly how to combine and vary the workout to ensure maximum results are achieved. The main idea is to maintain a balance of cardio and strength with minimal resting ensuring that an intense workout results. There are also separate details for beginner, intermediate and advanced users.

Conclusion

Craig Ballantyne created turbulence training for people with busy lifestyle's who find it difficult to find time to workout. The program is designed to be performed from your own home or office with minimal extra equipment and accessories required.

Chinese Medicine For Weight Loss

Weight problems are never categorized as a major health concern in Chinese medicine. Chinese people rarely get fat or obese. But nevertheless, obesity is still one problem addressed by traditional Chinese medicine.

The weight gain problem is more apparent with the Western race. And if weight loss were to be tackled in the light of Chinese medicine, you'd see that there are a quite a number of ways to treat it. These medicines are normally over-the-counter medications that consist of natural herbs and decoctions.

To initiate weight loss with the use of Chinese medicine, pattern discrimination is the first step. In here, the person's metabolism is analyzed through the bian zheng lun zhi process. This technique is effective and has a long-term effect. Once the actual reason why a person's metabolism is slow gets determined, then the necessary treatment procedure would be carried out. And these procedures are moxibustion, acupuncture, and diet modifications through the aid of natural herbs.

In traditional Chinese medicine, weight problems are focused on the spleen. This is because of the fact that the spleen directly controls the flesh and the muscles, including the transformation of the body's water fluids. The spleen is also the reason of the engenderment of phlegm. Once the spleen gets damaged because of eating too much fatty and sweet food the person gets fat. At that condition, the spleen won't be able to function and move water fluids all over the body and transform them into nutrients along the way.

Water fluids that aren't processed accordingly collect and gather in the different parts of the body. These are what transform into fatty, bulgy deposits in the waist, arms, legs, and other parts of the body.

In Chinese medicine, the primary treatment for obesity is also exercise. So there's really no going around it. If you want to lose weight, you have to start eating less and exercising more. Western or Chinese medicine, it is all the same. The only difference between the two techniques is the use of Chinese herbs and the most common Chinese method of healing, acupuncture.

The herbs used for losing weight are Shan Za, Zhi Ke, Sheng Jiang, Zi Su Ye, Huoxiang, Chenpi, and Laifuzi, among many others. Most of the time, these herbs are mixed in special proportions and are taken in two to three times in a day. These herbs are normally sold in capsules for easy administration.

Here are some examples:

Diet With Bo Jen Mi Tea

Yes, you can curb your eating pleasures with the use of this tea. Just take Bo Jen Mi tea for a month. You will surely lose substantial weight along the way. This diet tea is composed of half tea and half herbs. Take two to three cups per day, preferably before every meal. That should keep your diet on the sound side.

Herbal Diet with Wu Wei Zi

Wu Wei Zi is the food or herb that is considered as a complete meal as far as Chinese medicine is concerned. It is a prized food product because it contains all the five tastes of the Chinese diet. Basically, if you eat this herb, your body has all the nutrition it needs. And so, you need not eat more. Fructus Schizandrae or Schizandra is the pharmaceutical name of Wu Wei Zi.

Go on a Diet with He Ye and Fu Ling

These herbs are two of the best ones to counter the effects of gaining weight. These herbs, when taken orally, mixed with food, or drank as a tea, can produce impressive effects on an obese person. The other herbs that can be mixed with these two are Huang Qi, Zi Cie, and Da Huang, among others. Chinese medicine also recommends cucumber as the best food item for dieters.

However, there are also diet powders that can help initiate weight loss. These diet powders contain Ji Geng, Qiang Huo, Chai Hu, Shu Di Huang, Sheng Ma. To use it, the powder should be dissolved in a tablespoon of warm water and taken half an hour before mealtime.

The Science of Arm Training

You know the world has changed when the average lifter wants a baseball players physique. A big chest, a thick back, and jacked arms pretty much completes the wish list for most. Now whether or not all of these players achieved their results with steroids, I dont know. The fact is, they sure as heck didnt get those arms by training with kickbacks and concentration curls.

If your arms havent grown since you thought baseball was drug-free, then its time to make a change to your workouts. And Im going to show you how to use efficient and effective exercises in a scientifically-designed plan that will add more size to your arms a week at BALCO labs.

Unlike the average gym member, the lifter that gets results trains with a plan (even on arm day). While my sets and reps scheme might be out in left field compared to what you are doing now, believe me, its guaranteed to improve on most arm training programs. But if you insist on playing in the 10-15 rep range for every exercise then you are bound to plateau and have minor-league arms. Research shows that a wide range of repetitions (from 3 reps per set to 12 reps per set) can lead to big-time gains in muscle size.

Using low reps and heavy weights for your arm exercises might go against the grain, but the following outline will work for arms and all other body parts. But for now, this is all you need to know.

In the first exercise of this workout, youll do 3 sets of 5 reps with a heavy weight (that allows you to complete all reps according to the guidelines below). The goal is to build absolute (maximal) strength and muscle mass (obviously). Increasing your absolute strength will help you lift more weight in all exercises. And if you can lift more weight, then you can train the muscles harder. In response, the muscle will get bigger to keep up to the demands of the heavy weights.

In the second exercise of the workout, youll use 4 sets of 8 reps. It just might be the optimal combination of intensity and volume for muscle growth and will work extremely well for lifters that have been stalled on higher rep sets.

In the third and final exercise of the workout for the arms, youll do 3 sets of 12 reps to add more volume to the workout and to fatigue the muscle and deplete muscle glycogen (glycogen is the name for carbohydrate stored in the muscles). High-volume training and fatigue cause the muscles to stock up on carbohydrate stores in preparation for the next training session. And when your muscles stock up on glycogen, they get bigger and future training sessions can be more intense. At the end of the 6 week program youll be blasting through these workouts with more intensity and strength than youve had in months.

One the trademarks of my strength-training programs, as you will see in the months to come, is to use supersets as often as possible (although there will be exceptions to the rule). With supersets, we pair two non-competing exercises together to get more work done in less time, without sacrificing strength or mass. Muscle size is not associated with how long you spend in the gym. The training goal is to get in, work hard, get out, pound a post-workout shake, get home, eat and grow.

Another way to increase the effectiveness of the training program is to focus on the tempo of the exercise. Tempo just means the speed of the exercise. For example and for our purposes, a 3-1-1 tempo means youll take 3 seconds to lower the weight, then youll pause for 1 second, and then youll lift the weight back up in 1 second. A slow eccentric (lowering) tempo and a fast concentric (lifting) tempo will work your Type II muscle fibers the hardest these are fibers that have the greatest potential for muscle growth. So youll get your best strength and mass gains by using that general tempo arrangement.

You may have gone through a tempo phase in the past for a couple of weeks and then due to human nature you probably got lazy and forgot about using it. But for the next 6 arm workouts, I want you to stick to the prescribed tempo. Youll see and feel the benefits after the first workout.

Now all that remains is to choose the best exercises for building big arms. With the help of scientific research, experience, and some recommendations from Charles Poliquin, Ive put together some of the most efficient and effective arm exercises for mass and strength.

After the 4-week arm assault I want you to cut back on your arm training for 1 week to allow your muscles to grow (and adapt to the training). If you regularly include an off-week in your training plan, take it here. Otherwise, skip your arm workout in week 5. You can return in week 6 with a new variation of this program. By the end of the program your results should be strikingly obvious and you might even be getting calls from major league sluggers for training tips.

Training Recommendations

Note: This program is for advanced lifters only. If you are a beginner, youll need only 1 set per exercise for the first two weeks and only two sets in weeks 3 & 4.

Do this workout 6 times in 4 weeks.
Week 1 Wednesday & Saturday
Week 2 Wednesday
Week 3 Wednesday & Saturday
Week 4 Wednesday
Week 5 Recovery week

Reduce the amount of direct shoulder training you do in the 4 week arm training phase.

Exercise descriptions: See the bottom of the article.

Warm-up: For a specific warm-up, perform 2 sets of each exercise in the first Superset. Start with 50% and then 75% of the weight you will use in your first real set. Perform 8 repetitions for each warm-up set.

Each pair of exercises constitutes a Superset. In each Superset, do one set of the first exercise (1A) followed immediately by the next exercise (1B). Rest 1 minute and repeat.

Use a proper weight for each exercise that allows you to get all repetitions completed with perfect form and the recommended tempo. It will require you to decrease the weights by at least 10% on most exercises.

Exercise Descriptions

Close-grip Rack Lockout Bench Press

Move a flat bench into the middle of the squat rack.
Set the pins 6-inches above your chest. Youll perform only the top half of a close-grip bench press.
Keep your feet flat on the floor, legs bent, and upper back flat against the bench.
Grip the bar using a shoulder-width grip & have your spotter help you take the bar from the rack.
Keep your elbows close to your sides, lower the bar straight down to the pins according to the tempo.
Pause briefly and then press the bar up in a straight line.
Poliquin recommends that you keep a very small bend in your elbows at the top of triceps exercises in order to keep the muscles working at all times.

Decline DB Triceps Extensions

Lie on the decline bench with your feet anchored appropriately.
Press the dumbbells over your chest to the start position and turn your palms in so that they face one another.
Start the movement by bending the elbow and lower the dumbbells down and beside your head.
Pause and hold for one second and then contract your triceps to extend your arms and move the dumbbells back to the start position.

Lying EZ-Bar Triceps Extension

Lie flat on a bench with dumbbells in each hand. Hold the dumbbells at arms length over your chest, with your palms facing each other.
Bend the elbows and lower the dumbbells behind your head.
Pause briefly at the bottom, and then contract the triceps and extend your arms back up to the starting position.

Close-grip EZ-Bar Preacher Curl

Sit at the preacher curl bench with a narrow, palms-up grip on the EZ-Bar.
Poliquin recommends that you set the height of the seat so the tops of your thighs are parallel to the floor.
Lean forward so that your armpits are at in contact with the top of the preacher bench and as you lower the bar your triceps are in contact with the padding of the bench.
Lower the bar until your arms are stretched.
Pause briefly and then contract your biceps to curl the bar back up to the top position.
Poliquin also recommends that you keep your wrists cocked back throughout the full range of motion.

Seated DB Incline Curls

Set the incline of the bench at 80 degrees (in an almost upright position).
Sit on the bench with a dumbbell in each hand and your palms turned up.
Lean back and keep your back and head against the bench at all times throughout the exercise.
Perform alternating dumbbell curls with each hand. Keep the palm up throughout the entire exercise.

Seated DB Zottman Curls

The Zottman curl is simply a dumbbell curl performed with a palms down grip as you lower the dumbbell and a palms-up grip as your lift the dumbbell. Its like doing a curl followed by a reverse curl.
Set an adjustable bench so that the back is upright. Sit down and hold a dumbbell in each hand at arms length with your palm turned up.
Contract the biceps and curl the dumbbell up to shoulder height.
At the top of the movement, turn your palm down and lower the dumbbell back to the start position.
Poliquin recommends that you keep your elbows glued to your sides throughout the lifting and lowering portion of the exercise.

Your Body Shape and What it Means for Weight Loss

Your body shape and what it means for weight loss

The areas where you store your body fat show the influence of the subtle hormonal balance within the body. This fact can be used to predict which foods will more likely cause weight gain and diminish your health.

Fat storage patterns

Different people store their body fat in different areas. It may be that you store your fat on your stomach only, just below your waist or maybe all over your body, your hands, face included. Take a look at yourself, then have a look at the next few people you see and notice the different ways they store their fat.

In general there are four major fat storage patterns in women and three in men. This is caused by the dominance of the endocrine glands within the body; Thyroid, adrenal, pituitary or ovaries (women only). Each person has one gland that is more dominant than the others. This gland influences the main areas where you store fat

The broad patterns of fat storage are unique, see if you can spot someone who holds their fat mostly on the stomach and hips only, others who store it all over their body, some just below the waist only and finally people who store it on their back, chest stomach and hips. These patterns relate to the dominance of the thyroid, pituitary, ovaries and adrenals respectively.

Research has also found that certain foods stimulate these glands, for example caffeine, fruit, chocolate amongst others stimulates the thyroid gland. Over time you learn that the foods that stimulate your dominant gland will produce a temporary uplift in energy. The result is you learn to crave these foods when you are low on energy to give you a pick up . Over time relying on your dominating gland can wear it out resulting in a drop in metabolic rate and subsequent fat accumulation. The idea is to minimize these foods and replace them with a non dominant gland stimulating substitute. This will allow the gland a rest and allow it to recharge over time and thus let the body lose fat.

The cause of your cravings

The need for you to rely on the foods that stimulate your dominant gland arises because you are giving inadequate nutrients in the right amount for your body. The result is inefficient energy production and the desire to fall back on your favorite foods that will give you an uplift

This explains why when many people cut out cakes, sugars, starches and caffeine (Thyroid type foods, a common dominance in white western people) they never stick to it. As many people replace these foods with other food sources that are not appropriate for their metabolic type. The result is the body sends out signals for more energy, this gives the food craving for.you guessed it!..... the cakes, sugars, starches or caffeine they cut out. This opens up a game of will power which will inevitably be won by the food.

Know your type before cutting out these foods.

The simple solution to avoid the above cycle is to discover your metabolic type first, then fine tune the meal ratios before minimizing these glandular foods. The process of eating in accordance with your metabolic type will almost serve to completely reduce the food craving.

Persistent food cravings with an emotional basis can of course be treated with emotional freedom technique (EFT). In combination, this will relieve the biochemical and behavioral need for certain foods and thus produce the desired weight loss.

This is why my courses comes money back guaranteed, we are tackling the issues from all angles and right at the source of the problem.

Our Slowing Metabolism as We Age

Its a basic fact of life. As we get older our metabolism begins to slow down and the older we get the slower it gets. Thats just how nature works. A slowing metabolism isnt always noticeable either, its something that sneaks up on us and before we know it theres 10 or 15 extra pounds hanging off our bodies. Or maybe youve gained only 5 or 10 pounds but your clothes just seem to fit a lot tighter. As we grow older for many people the body begins to do the unthinkable, it starts getting rid of muscle and replacing it with a nice layer of fat.

There a couple of reasons that this begins to happen as we get older. For most people getting older means being less active. We also dont really change the way we eat and our caloric intake begins to overtake our caloric output. This change can be slow as the fatty layer slowly begins its insidious advance. Human growth hormone, the hormone responsible for our growth from infant to adult hood, begins to diminish. The body, no longer needing to grow, produces less and less of this as it ages. Human growth hormone is also responsible for building and maintaining lean muscle mass and as it diminishes the body has a harder time maintaining its muscle.

There is one way to slow the loss of muscle and keep that youthful vigor and body. Research has shown that exercise will keep your metabolism running efficiently and that means burning calories and excess fat. In one study a group of older men was divided into two groups. One group was put on an exercise program the other group was allowed to go about their daily lives. At the end of the study they compared both groups to two groups of younger men with similar lifestyles. The older group of couch potatoes averaged 22.2 pounds more fat than their younger counterparts. The group of older exercisers on the other hand only had about 9.5 extra pounds of fat then their more active younger counterparts.

In another study it was found that men who lifted weights can increase not only their muscle strength by over 200 percent but that their growth hormone decline significantly slowed allowing them to not only increase their lean muscle mass but also maintain it.

Maintaining or even increasing your metabolism while we age is entirely possible, but it does take a little motivation on your part. By following three simple steps, living healthy, exercising and eating right the slow wasting of muscle mass can be avoided even into our later years.

The Untold Facts On Weight Loss Diets

Man seems to have lost a certain virtue called patience. Everyone wants to do everything at a much quicker rate. People looking to make money want to get rich quick, those looking to lose weight want to lose it even faster. This is one of the reasons why the internet is flooded with companies that offer you a quick fix.

It is estimated that almost 50 million Americans will go on a diet this year and you might be one of them. However, here is one fact that may create a grim picture about the diet programs out there. Most diet programs may be successful in helping you lose a few pounds straight away, but very few will be able to help you sustain that weight loss and keep those kilos from returning.

Understanding weight loss

Losing weight is about diet management, health management and most importantly exercise. If you come across any claims that you can lose weight while you continue to eat whatever you wish to and without indulging in any sort of exercise, then consider it to be false. You need to reduce the calories that you consume and you wish to burn off some calories that you do consume. This combination is the only way to lose weight.

Spot reduction is not possible in a healthy way. So if a diet program tells you that you can lose the fat around your hips or buttocks only, then it is false or involves an unhealthy way to reduce it. There are some extremely low calorie diets that ask you to starve literally and only consume proteins. But the body needs a regular intake of carbohydrates to stay healthy and continue functioning. So stay away from any such diet program.

Temporary loss and rebound

Crash diets may help you get into shape temporarily but you can never continue to eat that way for long and eventually you will gain those extra pounds back.

Cardio Increases Appetite

Does aerobic training burn fat? It should, but why are so many people still overweight, no matter how much long slow exercise they do? Cardio exercise is such a strange thing. In theory, it should work so perfectly well for all men and women, but as anyone who has tried it knows, the practicality of it just doesn't add up.

After all, some men and women do cardio 6 hours, 9 hours, or more per week, and still have belly fat to burn. On the other hand, it works just fine for others. And you know who it works best for? Young, fit males. The guys who don't need any help! Young guys can workout all day long, they have nothing else to do. The guys who have a fast metabolism, exercise a lot, and have plenty of muscle.

It works for them, but does it work for you? Probably not. British researchers wanted to get more insight into this paradox, and studied 35 overweight men and women, who weren't previously exercising.

(Reference: International Journal of Obesity 32: 177-184, 2008).

Subjects exercised 5 times per week for 12 weeks. That's a lot of exercise, but it helped the subjects lose an average of 8.You should lose a lot of weight with cardio - if it worked. So cardio will work for some people, however, in my experience, it works best in young men, who need the help the least!

Back to the study, the variance in fat loss between individuals was huge. Check this out...

The best subject lost a staggering 32.3 pounds in 12 weeks, while the worst subject actually GAINED 3.74 pounds. The scientists think they know where things went sour. They classified the subjects into 2 groups, called the "Compensators" and the "Non-compensators".

The Compensators were hungrier, and as a result consumed an extra 268 calories per day, all but wiping out their cardio efforts. Therefore, the Compensators lost the least amount of weight, and scientists believe that was due to the huge "compensatory" increase in appetite experienced by this group.

Does your appetite increase when you do slow cardio? Cardio might increase your appetite.

So if your cardio program is not working for you, check your appetite and calorie intake to see if you are "compensating" for your efforts. If you are, you might be better off using a program of high-intensity resistance and interval training (i.e. Turbulence Training) for your weight loss efforts.

Researchers have proven intervals burn fat. And increased catecholamines can reduce appetite, among other fat- burning benefits. In the real world, few people lose 33 pounds after 12 weeks of cardio. Heck, few even achieve an average weight loss of 8 pounds with aerobic exercise.

So again, check your appetite, and consider giving high-intensity exercise a go for your next workout program. Beat the curse of cardio with high-intensity fat burning workouts that don't use cardio.

Lose Weight

With the growing number of people in America being overweight dieting is the number one thing on people's minds. There are so many new products on the market everyday. How do you know what to choose? You want something that is comfortable for your lifestyle and that also works.

Most people know or would agree that crash diets and pills do not produce long term weight loss. They are just a temporary fix. To keep weight off there has to be a lifestyle change involved. This can be such a slow process and we live in the time of wanting instant results.

Some suggestions to help you control your weight would be:

* Choose low-fat, low calorie foods
* Eat smaller portions
* Drink the required daily allowance of water that your body needs
* Get exercise

To maintain your weight you must burn as many calories as you take in. To lose weight you must burn more calories than you take in. This is the only way weight loss can be accomplished.

How To Lose 10 Pounds In 2 Weeks

Many people ask me how to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks and is it even possible? The answer is that it's very possible and that there are several ways in which you can do this. You can either reduce your calorie intake, raise the level of your exercise routines, or do a combination of both. You need to be careful to choose a weight loss process which will make it easy for you to maintain this impressive weight loss for a long time.

1. You can spend 2 weeks in intensive aerobic and strength exercise. This will require you to spend more than an hour each day working out. I don't mean taking a stroll. I mean intensive cardio routines such as running, rowing, cycling, swimming, or hiking. The more intense the better. Be aware that if you're not physically fit you may injure yourself by suddenly taking on a large dose of exercise. Choose a reliable fitness plan which will instruct you on how to not go over board.

2. You can use a detox based diet which will cleanse your body and get it to drop a lot of weight fast. But be aware that this will be mostly liquid weight, so that it may not last for a long time.

3. You can use a weight loss plan which is based on Calorie Shifting. This is a weight loss method in which you manipulate your metabolism to remain running high and burning fat at a rapid pace. This is done by constantly changing what you eat so that your metabolism is fooled to believe that you're not even dieting. The primary Calorie Shifting diet, Fat Loss 4 Idiots, can get you to lose 9 pounds in 11 days.

You should remember that losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks requires a firm commitment on your part. You should also know that you'll need to work hard to keep the weight off in the future. Choose a diet plan which is reasonable, doesn't starve you, and is easy to stick to for a long time.

What Cows Know About Weight Loss That We Have Forgotten

I want to talk to you about cows and what they can teach us about weight loss, or more specifically, fat loss. While it may not be obvious, we can learn a very important lesson from cows.

Not so many years ago, cattle were herded across the central plains. North in the summer and south in the winter, following the good weather. While moving several thousand head of cattle on horseback, it was impossible to bring food for the animals, so the route taken had to include grasslands or prairies where the cattle could graze.

With the advent of cattle ranches and barbed wire, it became increasingly more difficult to run cattle across the open range. Instead of moving the cattle to the food, ranchers began to bring the food to the cattle. With a change in diet came a change in the meat and dairy products as well.

You know the old saying "you are what you eat"... well, the same is true for cattle. Cows that consume a diet of fresh grasses instead of dry cattle "feed" end up consuming a higher concentration of many nutrients as well. One in particular that I'd like to discuss with you is a fatty acid called conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA.

Throughout time, people who ate beef and drank milk from cows that were "range fed" ended up consuming a healthy amount of CLA. Since then, the amount of CLA that cattle consume has decreased dramatically, and so they are passing less along to those of us further down the food-chain.

So, what does that mean for us? Well, once upon a time, people were able to make meat and dairy a part of a healthy diet, and that beef and milk actually helped them to stay lean.

The actual way in which CLA keeps animals (like us) lean is still somewhat of a mystery, but through observation, scientists are able to see that it works... and it works very well. A double blind study of obese humans in Norway showed that after 12 weeks, the group that took a little over 3 grams of CLA per day had a statistically significant decrease in body fat mass (BFM) and a statistically significant increase in lean body mass (LBM). These results were acheived without a significant lifestyle change.

Now I'm not going to suggest that anyone tries to lose weight without making significant lifestyle changes. Changes should include (but not be limited to) a decrease in calories per day and an increase in exercise per week. If people can get significant results without making a lifestyle change, what can they do when the two are working together?

I've been hearing about CLA for years now from friends who have lost pounds, fat and inches, and I've begun to take it myself as well, finally. I'm walking thirty minutes a day, five days per week, reducing my caloric intake, and taking CLA three times per day. I'm looking forward to updating you on my progress, and I hope you'll join me as well.

Before you decide, let's look at what we know about CLA and its effects. Studies show that CLA reduces body fat and weight in four ways:

* By decreasing the amount of fat that is stored after eating
* By increasing the rate of fat breakdown in fat cells
* By increasing the rate of fat metabolism
* By decreasing the number of fat cells

In addition to decreasing fat, CLA also helps to increase lean muscle mass. This helps in two ways, first of all, muscle looks better and more natural than fat, and secondly lean muscle burns calories. It's a synergistic effect that compounds as you lose more fat and increase muscle.

Give CLA a try, you've got nothing to lose but fat!

How to Solve Lower Back Pain

You can't bend over. You can't play with your kids or grandkids. You can't play golf. You can't even do your regular routine around the house. The long commute to work is killing you. You sit at your desk in gnawing pain for long periods of time and get nothing done because of it.

You've got back pain. And you need to get rid of it.

Let's show you how...

First and foremost, you need to see an expert to determine the cause and solution of your back pain. This is not something to be ignored. Ask around the gym or the office for a referral to a good soft-tissue therapist (this could be a physio or a chiropractor). Then see your doctor and get help as soon as possible.

Second, you need to find the cause of your pain and eliminate it. If you have a bad bed, a poor office workstation setup, or a bad exercise program - you must remove the offending activity that is crippling you with back pain.

Fortunately, there are many ways to help reduce your back pain in the gym. On the other hand, there are many ways that you might make the back pain worse.

Here's the one thing you should never do in the gym if you have back pain: You should never round your back. So that means no situps, no crunches, no picking up weights off the floor with a rounded back, and no rowing exercises performed with a rounded back. Be diligent with your form in all squats, rows, deadlifts, etc. If in doubt, skip the exercise.

Now picking up weights off the floor - that's where you see some of the ugliest form in the gym. So don't think that because it's "not really part of your exercise" that you can use poor posture when you are moving weights around the gym. Follow these rules when lifting for proper form.

Here's what you must do:

- Increase your abdominal endurance with exercises like the plank and side plank

- Brace your abdominals (clench them tight) in every exercise

- Keep your low back in a proper alignment by keeping a slight arch in the low back in all exercises

Follow these rules and you'll be able to exercise safely. The Turbulence Training program comes with torso training workouts that will help you build muscle endurance and reduce your risk of back pain. Being overweight is another cause of back pain (and knee pain too). So you need to get on a fat loss program that works and takes care of your back at the same time. And that's where a good, and safe, fat burning workout comes in.

Use proper form, build your abdominal endurance and you'll avoid back pain (while getting closer to that ever elusive 6-Pack.

Craig Ballantyne's interval training workouts have helped thousands of men and women with weight loss and fat burning in less than 45 minutes three times per week. Diet Plans To Lose 25 Pounds Fast!

There are so many diet plans to lose 25 pounds that fail. I am about to give you a quick overview of a diet that will help you lose 25 pounds pretty quickly. Not only that its in a healthy manner and if you keep doing it you can lose even more. This article might not be the most well written, but if you follow it you will lose weight.

-Eat oatmeal every other morning along with one fruit of your choice. On the other morning you should eat a small bowl of cereal or some lean chicken/fruits. Make sure you do not exceed 550 calories for this small meal.

-Eat a small meal of around 350 calories around noon that consist of mainly lean meats, fruits, vegetables or whole grains. Stay away from all fast food as well as any other fattening foods like pizza, fried chicken etc.

-Eat another meal thats around 300 calories around 3 pm in the afternoon. This meal will consist of perhaps some brown rice, lean meat and some yogurt. Just make sure you keep the calories right around 300-350. Many diet plans to lose 25 pounds tell you to eat less, but if you keep the calories low it actually raises the metabolism and helps you burn more fat.

-Eat your last meal of the day at around 7:30 pm and make it around 400 calories. Again this should consist of lean meats, fruits and veggies.

Keep in mind its ok if you slip up say once every two days, you will also need to increase your exercise of course. Run around a half mile to mile per day for 5 days a week. I must also advise that you consult your doctor first before trying this new diet as he/she should be aware of any diet changes. I hope you like this diet plans to lose 25 pounds and wish you good luck. If you need any more help check out my bio box below. Have a great day!

When Fasting for Weight Loss, Remember the Following

Well, its been labeled as the greatest remedy-the physician within by Philippus Paracelsus and more and more people are discovering the use of fasting as a means of improving health and losing weight. However, as beneficial as this method can be, being radical in nature, the use of fasting should be approached with care.

Though fasting is by far a greater cure of our ills-both physical and mental-than all of the drugs of the medical fraternity combined, for weight loss or for anything it may be used for, one has to be aware of certain criteria to achieve success with its use.

These include the types of fasts one can use, how long to fast, when to fast and how to come off of a fast.

Friends, there are several types of fasts that can be beneficial for weight loss.

1. The complete water fast: This, admittedly, should be conducted with extreme caution or in a specialized sanitarium if undertaken more than 3 days.

2. The Juice Fast: This is much easier for the general populace and can be undergone as long as you feel like it.

3. The Fruit Fast: This, well, is really not a fast per sebut when one lives exclusively on SEASONAL ORGANIC fruits for days on endmeaning mono meals (2 at the most ) of only one kind of fruit say Apples in Fall, Melons in summer for a week plus, you will be bound to see the benefits.

The second and third choices are by far my personal recommendations for those seeking to lose weight through fasting.

How to Fast

Being far-reaching in nature, fasting must be undertaken with care, however from my experience with it, here are a few tips to hopefully get you started.

1. Prepare yourself for a fast by gradually tapering off of acid-forming aka junk foods and commence to consuming raw and cooked fruits and veggies to begin a milder cleansing process as these items are the best intestinal brooms for the colon.

2. Every now and again, 3 hours after supper and say an hour or so before retiring to sleep, drink an herbal tea laxative such as Smooth Move Herbal Tea during this preparatory stage.

3. Drink 1-2 quarts of unflavored lemonade in the mornings to balance the chemical reactions within the body and to restore it to an alkaline state.

4. Be mentally prepared for the task ahead of fasting.

5. Take things a little easier while fasting or on a mono-diet of fruit.

6. Avoid using microwaves at all costs-cant go into detail as that is another subject, however, TRUST me. You want to exclude the use of this so-called convenience device not only while fasting put permanently.

7. Taper off a water fast by using the second type (juice fasting) for a few days, then gradually going to the third (mono-fruit fasting), then afterwards you could (like I do most of the time) simply stick to tons of fruit as the core of your diet or include properly cooked roots, steamed or raw leafy vegetables.

Whatever you do, just please dont go back to eating the old junk stuff. To explain why in a nutshell, here are two quotes: You are what you eat and Let your foods be your medicine

I really think options 2 and especially 3 (in regards to the types of a fast) are quite easy for any and everyone to do. So why not give it a shot? I can confidently say fasting, when used properly, will not only make you lose the excess pounds, but youd also be well on your way to a cleaner, better, healthier and happier you in no time.

It may come across as a huge sacrifice however, when you see the results, you sure will be glad you did it.

Heres to your health and happiness.

Bike Riding for Weight Loss - Tips for Beginning A Bicycling Plan

If you are one of those people who leisurely pedal around the block or over a flat stretch of scenic road, youve probably been riding for sheer pleasure. Riding bikes for pleasure is a good form of aerobic exercise. But unless you map out a plan to push yourself, you probably wont lose much weight.

I really get sick of hearing people say, No pain, no gain! But the old adage is true when it comes to riding bikes to lose weight. By pushing your cycling distance or speed, you are sure to feel some pain in your leg muscles, your hands, wrists, and your derriere-- even some pain in your throat and lungs as your body tries to accommodate your increased demand for oxygen.

HEALTH TIP: Stretching exercises prior to exercising are helpful in preventing injury!

GETTING YOUR BICYCLE READY...TO ROLL OFF THE WEIGHT

Your first concern will be outfitting your bicycle. If you need an excuse to purchase a new bike, this is an excellent opportunity! I went from a 3-speed bicycle for leisure riding, to a 24-speed bicycle for more committed exercising. Once I learned how the different gears worked, I was very thankful for the extra speeds. They make my ride faster and the hills a lot easier to handle.

Weve found the guys at the bicycle shop to be very helpful, and concerned for our unique cycling needs. Rather than simply steering us toward the most expensive bicycle available (as I had expected), they asked how much riding we would be doing, whether we were trying for speed or leisure, and whether we would be riding on paved roads or dirt trails. When you honestly share your goals and level of experience, the sales clerks can match you with exactly what you need. They want you to be successful in your biking venture!

Some state laws require bicycle lights. But if you will be riding anytime from dusk to dawn, common sense demands that you have lights on your bicycle. These little accessories are battery-operated and last a long time. There are a variety of lights to choose from. My tail light has different blinking speeds, and is designed to make my bike visible to cars approaching from both the rear and the sides. Check for brightness before you buy one. Install the light where it makes the most sense.

We held off on buying a speedometer and odometer unit for our bikes, but once we got serious about losing weight and getting in shape, this feature became a must have. You simply cannot track your progress without knowing how far and how fast youre riding.

If you already have a bicycle, take it to the bike shop for a safety inspection each season. They should check the gears, tires and brakes to make sure everything is working properly. They can adjust your seat to fit your height and adjust the handlebars to fit your reach, making your ride more comfortable. If youre lucky, they might even clean and polish your bike!

If you want to save money in the long run, you can find books and videos that teach you how to care for your own bicycle. Its always a great idea to know how to change your own flat tire and adjust a loose chain.

Another must have is a bicycle pump. Ask your bike dealer how many pounds of air pressure to put in your bicycle tires. Check the tires each time you get ready to ride! We guessed at the air pressure one summer day, and lived to regret it. We rode the bikes to the swimming pool, not realizing that one tire was too full. While we were cooling off in the water, the hot sun was rapidly expanding the air in the tiresone tire blew as it sat in the parking lot. The day in the sun was not so fun, once the pool closed and we had to wait for a truck to haul us home!

HEALTH TIP: Talk with your doctor first, and get his or her blessing before you increase your rate of physical activity!

STAYING COMFORTABLE ON YOUR BIKE

Sitting for long periods of time on a bicycle seat can cause pain, discomfort, and even serious blood circulation problems in avid bicyclists. At your local bike shop, youll find a variety of bicycle seats made specifically for your comfort and health. The salespeople at our local bike shop encouraged us to try out new seats on our bikes for a few days. My husband found the split seat to be more comfortable for himself, while I opted to keep my old gel seat. Someone has even invented seats that look more like a bird perch than a bicycle seat!

HEALTH TIP: Get off your bicycle seat and walk around every 25 minutes or so to get the blood flow to important unmentionable parts of your body.

Think about your clothing...you dont have to have padded biker shorts and special clothing to start riding bikes. There are actually scientifically engineered fabrics designed to pull sweat away from your body in the summer and to keep you from getting hypothermia in the winter. But for now, just wear layers of comfortable sports clothes.

Make sure your clothes arent so tight that you are miserable trying to pedal. But they shouldnt be loose enough to become entangled in the bicycle chain, either! If you become overheated, strip off a layer. If you get cold, add a layer. Wear light or bright colors to allow drivers to see you easily.

It really helps to have a small cargo rack on the back of your bike. Mine looks like a little shelf over the back tire. It has two bungee cords to keep any cargo securely fastened to the bike. Ive used it to tote a small picnic cooler, a shopping bag or extra clothes.

I had the bike shop attach a water bottle holder to the bike under my seat. I can grab a quick swig as I ride or pour some water over my pulse points to cool off a bit. Take small sips of water when needed during your bike ride, rather than chugging huge gulps.

A helmet is almost a must. Life is filled with hazardsand biking has its share. Be smart. Wear a helmet. You can buy a cool rear-view mirror for your helmet. The mirror helps you see when its safe to turn and lets you observe traffic coming up from behind.

I recommend wearing sunglassesboth for the sun and for bugs! At certain times of the year, the air is thick with flying insects. Getting a tiny bug in your eye is a painful event. For contact wearers, carry a contact case and lens cleaner on bike rides for just that reason. Some day youll be glad you did!

HEALTH TIP: Shake your hands downward frequently to get the blood flowing and to prevent pain or numbness in your arms and hands.

MAPPING OUT A WEIGHT LOSS PLAN

You will want to keep a record of your daily diet and food intake, your weekly body measurements and weight, as well as your bicycling miles and time.

The web site www.OpenFitness.net is an excellent way to track your progress. It is very easy to usesimply type in your information you wish to track. As the only community fitness web site of its kind, youll find it to be a fantastic motivation tool that will print out charts and graphs to show how much progress youve made in a few days, a week, or a month!

It keeps track of your food, vitamin, and supplement intake. Thousands of foods have already been analyzed by experts for number of calories, fat, carbs, and protein. You simply select the foods you ate from a pull down feature, and the daily total is tallied for you. Make sure you dont exercise when youve just eaten, or when its almost meal time. Both times will slow you down.

No matter how humiliating it is, measure your arms, legs, chest, waist, neck, hips and thighs once a week. The software keeps track of your weight and body measurements. The thrill of seeing those same inches melt away in the coming weeks will be worth the effort. Its especially impressive seen as a graph!

Consider investing in an instrument that actually measures body fatthere are inexpensive pincer-type instruments that measure fat by pinching you, or buy a set of bathroom scales that cost more but calculate body fat quite painlessly.

Try to ride 4-6 days per week. When you map out your weight loss plan, your short-term goals will change as you change. Youll quickly develop stamina for longer distance. As fat turns to muscle, your speed will increase. Each week, try to increase either your mileage or your speed.

You know how far youve been able to ride, thus far. Start keeping track of the exact route you are taking, the total mileage, and the length of time it took you. Make notes in your records for special circumstances. Did it get dark outside so you were forced to cut your ride short? Did the road crews dump a layer of gravel on your normally paved road?

What was the weather like? Was it dangerously hot? Was it windy? The wind can be your friend or your enemy. When the wind is behind you, your ride is a breeze...but coming from any other direction, be prepared to huff and puff. Accept any length of time as a job well done and simply get the ride accomplished!

Finally, add an upper body workout three times per week. Bicycling works your legs, but to get the rest of your body firm and trim, youll need to exercise your upper body, as well. The www.openfitness.net web site, created by a certified personal fitness trainer, has excellent features which allow you to design and track this portion of your fitness program, as well.

Bicycle riding is a fun, inexpensive form of aerobic exerciseits good for every part of you. But be warnedyou will need to buy a whole new wardrobe for the thinner, more beautifully fit body that emerges!

Losing Weight - How Can You Tell Which Diets Will Be The Most Effective for You?

Are you one who aims to achieve his/her weight loss goals by skipping meals? Are you already skipping your breakfasts and meals? Are you feeling weary as a result of fasting? Have you lost your appetite? You see, you might be highly motivated to reach your weight loss goal, but you are not losing weight safely. Using these methods are not the most effective diets. And you need to understand that there is a big difference between weight loss and 'safe' weight loss.

The most effective diets make weight loss safe. You follow a regular diet and exercise plan. You do some aerobics such as swimming, jogging, cycling, etc. You regularly sweat it out in the gym. You do all these but without giving up eating! If your weight loss program recommends crash dieting and meal-skipping then I am afraid that it is not a safe weight loss program!

As a matter of fact, the most effective diets will vary by person depending on your physique is built based on your eating habits. If you tend to eat fatty foods then you will get fat. If you eat foods that have low fat and calorie content, then you will remain slim. If you don't eat at all then you will suffer from weakness, loss of energy and a host of other problems. How good or bad your physique will be depends on how much calories you consume and how much you burn off by doing exercises.

There are so many different weight loss pills and products out there that they often try to distract us from the basics of the most effective diets. It is not surprising that people are falling in love with magic weight loss pills, for example. After all, if you can lose twenty pounds just by popping a couple of pills, why would you diet and exercise?

There are also certain fad diets which advise you to remove all fats and all carbs from your diet. This method is definitely not the most effective diet either. In fact, it is borderline crazy. Yes of course, stop eating all the fatty fried and calorie-rich junk foods. But it is unwise to remove all types of fats and all types of carbohydrates because your body needs them.
