Detoxing Sucks in More Ways Than One

Have you ever tried a detox? Lost some weight didn't you? Gained it back didn't you? Detoxing is classic starvation and just the latest con job being shoved down your throats and unfortunately way too many of you are buying into it and potential danger as well.

I get a little pissed off when I hear about all these detox diets that the stars and celebs make famous. I don't hide my emotions very well when people speak to me about the benefits they received via the 'body cleanse' for I think it's absolutely absurd.

There are dozens out there but the most common detox 'The Master Cleanse '-- also known as the Lemonade Diet -- dates back to the 1970s. It got a publicity boost recently when pop star Beyonc Knowles lost 20 pounds in 10 days on the diet to slim down for her role in Dreamgirls. Not surprisingly the news caused a sales spike for the syrup used in the lemonade and BOOM... instant fad. Shame on you Beyonce, are you looking for a spot in my millionaire of the month club?

To date I know of no process that supports the claim that your body needs a detox to purge environmental toxins out of its system.

NEWFALSH! This just in, you have this amazing organ called a liver in addition to a filtering hwy called your G.I. tract. Our body is designed to handle just about everything you shovel into it and it does a hell of a job. Why screw that up with pseudoscience and conartists pushing fad diets and detox?

Wait a minute...hang on... something else is coming over the lines ...ok...ok...FLASH! Breaking news! You can't erase 20 30 or even 40 years of bad eating habits and lack of exercise with a 10-day detox!

I know it's hard not to buy into it but you have to draw that line in the sand and take responsibility for your own well-being. No one else is going to. If you want a guaranteed detox stick to whole foods and lean proteins while steering clear from the highly processed foods.

Take action and consistently implement the 3 keys (resistance training, supportive nutrition, moderate aerobic activity) and you will be well on your way to living healthy happy and fit!
