Best Way to Lose Weight

Seriously? Are you asking me to be nice and polite and mush you with a bunch of feel-good cheer-leading, or do you want the truth? As Jack Nicholson said in "A Few Good Men", "You can't handle the truth!"

The truth is, in the industrialized countries of the world, people eat like cows and sit on their butts all the time. In the Third World, people have a hard time scratching out a living and they're as skinny as skin and bones. Want to lose weight? Find out what their secret is. Go there and live with them.

How about a holiday in Zambia? Ask your travel agent what's the closest she can get you there, and stay there for... oh... about three months should do it. Be sure to get your shots first. Zambia is a landlocked country in South Africa, surrounded by the Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. Zambia's total foreign debt is in excess of $6 billion and HIV/AIDS is widespread. The average income per-capita is equivalent to $395 US, which makes Zambia one of the world's poorest countries.

Go live in their village. You will doubtless make quite an impression on them for a while, the strange, white, fat person from the land of plenty. You'll be more than welcome to stay if you simply gift the village with some amenities like towels and pots.

Eat what they eat. This is usually a porridge made from maize, with a variety of vegetables, beans, meat, fish or sour milk. Cassava a staple food in some parts of the country. Pretty much whatever they can find or catch is the order of the day, and usually a small portion.

Live how they live. You can forget about driving, as the whole place is pretty much one big mud flat. Clean water can be had easily with a daily four-mile hike to the reservoir, carrying two big jugs back over your shoulders. Simple things like planting a field will be a month's work, as plowing is done by getting six of you together to drag a huge piece of scrap iron across the ground and sowing and harvesting is done on hands and knees.

Well, you asked!
